Frederick Whaley (born 1860) initially opened a successful photography studio in Lincoln. He was a respected exhibitor and won medals for his work at exhibitions in cities such as Derby, Nottingham, Gloucester, and Oldham. In 1888, Whaley moved his studio to Doncaster. He expanded his business by opening another studio in Scarborough in 1899.
