Venca was a New Zealand clothing label founded by Svetolik and Milanka Lazarevic, who emigrated from Yugoslavia in 1951. Svetolik, a mechanical engineer, initially washed cars in New Zealand before starting the Venca business with his wife, Milanka. Venca specialized in garments designed by Milanka and manufactured in their purpose-built factory in Kilbirnie, Wellington. The company produced approximately 8-10,000 garments annually and was known for its blouses and skirts, particularly in the 1960s. Venca sold its clothing in New Zealand department stores and exported it to Australia. The business eventually wound down in the mid-1980s due to Milanka’s illness
