History wedding cake toppers: A turning point came with Queen Victoria. At her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840, a miniature figure of the couple adorned the wedding cake. This royal example helped popularize figurative cake decorations, and gradually it became a trend at other weddings as well. Before the use of figurines, wedding cakes were often decorated with floral arrangements or vases.
