The famous Tesla Studios was a well-known photographic business in Wanganui (Whanganui), New Zealand. Founded by photographer Mark Lampe in 1908, it operated until 1955. The studio produced a large variety of photographs, portraits, and commercial family images that were frequently adapted into postcards.

History about Private Postcards: Family postcards became popular in the early 1900s, when advances in photography made it easy to print personal photographs onto postcard stock. Families used them to share portraits, celebrations, holidays, and everyday moments, combining a photograph with a handwritten message. During the “Golden Age of Postcards” (roughly 1890–1915), these photo postcards became an affordable and popular way to stay connected with relatives and friends across long distances.
