History Elna Grasshopper sewing machine: The Elna “Grasshopper” (originally released as the Elna #1) was released in 1940. It was designed by Spanish engineer Ramon Casas and mass-produced in Geneva, Switzerland, by Tavaro S.A. The machine remained in production until 1952, when it was succeeded by the Elna Supraatic (often known as the Elna Supermatic). The legendary Elna Grasshopper sewing machine, one of the most recognizable portable sewing machines of the 20th century. Perfect for completing a vintage Elna set or display.
