History of GEC: GEC was founded in 1886 by Gustav Binswanger (Byng) and Hugo Hirst as a wholesaler of electrical goods. In 1887, the company published its first catalog—the very first of its kind in the electrical industry. By 1888, GEC had acquired its first factory and begun manufacturing a variety of electrical components, including telephones, electric bells, ceiling roses, and switches.
