Registration: In the UK design registration system, a 6-digit number starting with 749,xxx indicates that the design was officially registered between 1929 and 1930. Stamping or casting a “British Register No.” (often abbreviated as Rd. No. 749736 or Regd. No.) onto hardware like pull handles, door knockers, and finger plates was a common practice among early 20th-century British ironmongers and brass founders. It legally protected the unique aesthetic shape or pattern of the handle from being copied by competitors.
