History Sperryn: Sperryn & Co. Ltd. was founded in 1889 by George Sperryn, Herbert E. Wright, and W. Salters. The company began by producing gas fittings and oven taps, later expanding around 1898 to include water fittings and electrical accessories. Over time, Sperryn became known for manufacturing high-quality plugs, sockets, and switches made from porcelain, ebonite, and Bakelite — including specialized versions for the Australian and New Zealand markets. In 1919, Sperryn & Co. and several related firms were acquired by a new private company called British Brass Fittings. This organization was later converted into a public limited company in 1951, at which point it restored its original name, Sperryn & Co. Ltd. Today, vintage Sperryn electrical fittings and Bakelite switches remain collectable pieces of industrial heritage, valued for their craftsmanship and connection to early British manufacturing.
