Salesians are members of Roman Catholic religious orders dedicated to the education of young people, especially those with social disadvantages. They are named after Saint Francis de Sales and were founded in the 19th century by Saint John Bosco. The Salesians are organized into two main groups: the Salesians of Don Bosco (men) and the Salesian Sisters (women), who are dedicated to supporting young people worldwide through their work in schools, missionary activities, and other charitable projects.
The Penin engravers were a prominent family of French medal engravers from Lyon, whose legacy spans nearly two centuries, beginning with Marius Penin in the early 19th century. Their expertise, particularly in religious medals, continued through Marius’s son, Ludovic Penin (a pontifical engraver), and Adolphe Penin (Ludovic’s grandson), and extended into the modern era with Paul Penin. The family’s business, eventually incorporating the Poncet name after Ludovic’s daughter married Alexandre Poncet, achieved great prosperity and became a vital part of French artistic history.
