Continental Bags (N.Z.) Ltd was a New Zealand company founded in 1927 by Joseph and Dulcie Land and became known in 1981 for its slogan “Lands for bags.” The company was liquidated around 1993 due to problems with cheap imports and difficulties with local production. However, the company’s advertising became part of New Zealand folklore. The company’s last managing director was Jim Land, the founders’ son.

Mid-20th-century vinyl handbags were part of the widespread use of new plastics and synthetic materials that became popular after World War II and offered a stylish, modern, and affordable alternative to leather. While the Park Lane brand was known for its vinyl products, the company focused on all-in-one cosmetic bags rather than exclusively handbags. The use of vinyl in the mid-20th century was characteristic of a time when fashion embraced mass-produced, practical, and visually appealing accessories.
