Joseph Bottomley was one of Bradford’s most prominent professional photographers, active from the mid-1850s to the 1880s. He established his photography studio in Bradford in 1855, making him one of the city’s first professional photographers. Before and after his residence at 980 Leeds Road, Bottomley’s studio and business addresses changed over the years. His locations included: Hall Lane (1855–1861), 22 Wakefield Road (1861–1867), Sunbridge (1868–1870), 72 New Market Street (1871–1880), and 7 North Parade (1881–1883).
