A Bürgerort (also known as Heimatort or place of origin) is the Swiss municipality where a citizen holds their ancestral citizenship. Unlike a birthplace, a Bürgerort is passed down through families and remains the same even when a person moves to another town, country or continent.
Our family’s Bürgerort is Rünenberg, a village in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. This special connection links generations of our family to Switzerland and keeps our Swiss heritage alive.
