Alfred Kugler was born in 1877 (originally from southern Germany) and died in 1937 of a heart attack. In 1902 he moved to Basel and opened a photo atelier on St. Johanns-Vorstadt. In 1908 he relocated to Blumenrain, Basel, where he acquired the house and studio previously belonging to the well known photographer family Höflinger.
