History of GEC: GEC was founded in 1886 by Gustav Binswanger (Byng) and Hugo Hirst as a wholesaler of electrical goods. In 1887, the company published its first catalog—the very first of its kind in the electrical industry. By 1888, GEC had acquired its first factory and begun manufacturing a variety of electrical components, including telephones, electric bells, ceiling roses, and switches. One of the company’s early innovations was the use of porcelain as an insulating material in switches, a breakthrough that marked a significant advancement in electrical safety and design at the time.
Please note: Our electrical items are vintage items and are sold as collector’s pieces. If you intend to use them, we recommend that you have them inspected and certified for safety by a qualified electrician before connecting or operating them. Please consult your electrician before purchasing.
