Indian Meal Pie recipe converted to metric measurements:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Indian meal (cornmeal) → 120 grams

  • 2/3 cup molasses → 160 ml

  • 1 quart milk → 950 ml

  • 1 tablespoon butter → 14 grams

  • 1 pint dried apples (soaked) → 475 ml (approx. 200 grams dried apples before soaking)

  • 1/2 grated nutmeg → about 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions:
  1. Boil the milk, and pour it boiling onto the cornmeal.

  2. Cook the mixture for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Add the molasses, butter, soaked apples, and grated nutmeg.

  4. Mix well, and place the mixture between two pie crusts.

  5. Bake slowly for over an hour at a low to moderate temperature (~160°C / 320°F).
